London Probation Support Project

A Helping Hand for Chinese Offenders

The Chinese Information and Advice Centre (CIAC) helps adult offenders of Chinese heritage serve their community sentences or license.

This project is funded by London Probation which is a part of the National Probation Service. Services are provided to help offenders who received a Community Order or are released from prison on license to tackle their offending behavior and resettle into society.

CIAC plays a bridging role between the London Probation staff and offenders of Chinese origin. This group of offenders are particularly challenging due to language barriers and cultural differences. Telephone advice and one-to-one advice sessions provide information to offenders in both English and Chinese. Assistance is given to offenders in completing their Community Order, or in helping them stick to their conditions when they are released back into the community on license.

How you can help

Most reading materials and entertainment in prisons are only in English. CIAC collects Chinese language reading material and distributes them to Chinese prisoners in the UK. If you are able donate, please deliver books and magazines to our offices in London's Chinatown. For directions click here.
